Quilts in the Gardens - Royal Botanical Gardens, Burlington, Ontario, May 14-15, 2011

Rules and Requirements are provided to you so you can better prepare for your entire quilt making season.


• All members of HQG in good standing as of October 7, 2010 can enter their quilts.

• Each member who submits work is required to volunteer at the show a minimum of one 2-hour shift.

• Each member must ensure delivery of quilts before, and pick-up after the show at designated times.

• Childrens’ category: This category is open to children & grandchildren (under 18 yrs) of members in good standing.

Botanical Challenge Quilt

This theme was chosen as a tribute to our beautiful venue at the Royal Botanical Gardens. 

The quilt should be your own original creation featuring some type of plant form, for example: flowers, trees, leaves, shrubs, or nature scenes, etc.  No kits or pre-printed panels will be accepted.  You may use floral prints if they are part of your own original design. 

The total perimeter should be no larger than 180 inches. 

The quilt can be any shape as long as you provide any special hanging equipment, if needed

• Panels, pre-printed pieces and unfinished quilts will not be accepted. Quilting must be done by hand or machine.

• Only quilts never before exhibited at the Halton Quilt Show are eligible.

• All quilts submitted must have a 4" quilt sleeve securely attached to the back of the quilt. Quilts without sleeves will not be hung for display.

• A permanent fabric label indicating quilt name and exhibitor’s name must be stitched to the back of quilt.

• Deadline for submissions: March 15, 2011. (Items do not have to be completed by March 15th, but forms must be in.)

• Only one item on each registration form.

• The Quilt Show Committee is solely responsible for placement of the quilt on the show floor.


Halton Quilters’ Guild Members Quilt Entry Form

General Information:
Measure your quilt! We need accurate sizes indicated on the registration (e.g. 68" x 94").

Remember to include a colour photo of your quilt, and a photocopy/scan of your valid membership card.

A quilt is defined as having 3 layers. For all submissions, credit must be given to author, teacher, source of inspiration for the work, and name of machine quilter (if applicable).

Quilts are to be dropped off at the Royal Botanical Gardens on Friday, May 13, 2011 from 9 am to 12 noon. Quilts will be receipted when received.

Quilts must be picked up on Sunday, May 15, 2011 from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. Receipt must be shown to receive quilt. If unavailable, please make arrangement for someone else to pick up your quilt during time stated above.

Quilt Show Committee reserves the right to limit number of submissions.

All Guild members who submit quilts will receive a free admission pass!

Judging:
Winners will be determined by Viewers’ Choice ballots in each of the following categories:

  • Bed Quilt – you declare it as a bed quilt, it will function as a quilt on a bed — crib size to king.
  • Wall Quilt – based on piecing, applique, embroidery, using original blocks or patterns in the public domain. There are no perimeter requirements/restrictions.
  • Group Created Quilt – a quilt of any style created by 3 or more people.
  • Miniature Quilt – a quilt of any style 60" or less in perimeter.
  • Wearable / Useable – a garment, outfit, significant accessory item, constructed using quilting techniques and displaying some quilted areas.
  • Childrens' Quilt – children and grandchildren of members in good standing as of October 7, 2010, aged under 18 years, may enter quilts in the children’s category. Quilts should fit criteria of one of the above categories.
  • Challenge Quilt – Theme: Botanical – a quilt of created images of plants or plant life (as opposed to a quilt with flowered fabric). Maximum size: 180" in perimeter. (see further description in the Rules and Regulation column)

Policies:
(1) The Halton Quilters’ Guild and The Royal Botanical Gardens assume no liability for the quilts and cannot be held responsible in an unlikely event that a quilt is damaged or lost. The Royal Botanical Gardens will be locked during the overnight hours.
(2) Submission of a quilt for the Quilts in the Gardens exhibition constitutes permission for photographs to be taken for publicity or other reasons.
(3) All quilts not picked up at the time stated above will be taken to 849 Templemead Drive, Hamilton. Late pick up/storage fee of $ 5.00 per quilt will be charged.
